Bunt: 1968. u Rijeci i svijetu

The exhibition Bunt: 68 in Rijeka and the World connects the story of the powerful political protests of May 68’ with more recent student movements and artistic practices that call for reflection on the present and its problems. The year 1968 was marked by the struggle against the capitalist value system, a consumer ideology that has reached its peak in the last two decades. The consequences of this social order can be seen in the increasing class inequality, the commodification of knowledge, the reduction of workers' rights, the inevitable environmental pollution and the flourishing of the culture of individualism.

The exhibition featured archival materials (articles from Novi List and minutes from student assemblies) that followed the events in Zagreb and Rijeka that year, short documentaries that show current student resistance at universities around the world, and a selection of student artworks that reflect on power relations, or directly oppose censorship and the abolition of freedom of speech by political elites. The works also call for disobedience, express persistence and engagement, represent the symbolism of youthful rebellion, and call for more attentive listening and viewing of social reality.

In addition to the artworks, several student texts and reflections on the topic have been collected and will be published in the first issue of the gallery fanzine.
